The term necrotic melanoma refers to a melanoma that is almost entirely composed of necrotic tumor cells. The neoplasm is usually a uveal melanoma [melanoma - uvea]. Why these tumors undergo necrosis remains poorly understood. In some cases the tumors are associated with a markedly elevated intraocular pressure which may impair the circulation to the tumor.
