Bilateral diffuse uveal melanocytic proliferation (BDUMP, supernevus syndrome) is a paraneoplastic syndrome characterized by a diffuse uveal thickening due to multiple patchy uveal non-malignant nevus-like tumors in association with a malignant visceral malignant neoplasm. Most cases have been associated with a carcinoma of the ovary [carcinoma - ovary]. The clinical appearance of the tumors of the uvea has been likened to the skin of a giraffe. A cataract and exudative retinal detachment [retinal detachment - exudative] is commonly also present. Other paraneoplastic syndromes may be associated (hypercoagulability, hypercalcemia). The condition does not respond to corticosteroid therapy.
