Neuroretinitis is characterized by optic disc edema [edema - optic disc] and exudates of the macula. Most cases are idiopathic, but neuroretinitis may be associated with multiple sclerosis, cat scratch disease, syphilis and other disorders. The differential diagnosis includes the demyelinative form of optic neuritis [optic neuritis - demyelinative].
